If you think traveling with a small plush bear is easy… think again.

Oliver — my tiny, opinionated, emotionally expressive bear — fell deeply, irrevocably, almost spiritually in love with one particular thing in Japan:

👉 Our luxury hotel in Osaka.

Not the temple.

Not the neon lights.

Not the ramen.

Not even the pastries (shocking, I know).

No.

Oliver fell in love with heated marble floors, soft ambient lighting, and pillows that cost more than his entire outfit.

The moment he settled into that plush armchair by the window overlooking Osaka at night, he decided:

“This is my home now. Tell the humans I’ve retired.”

So when the morning came and it was time to leave, the drama began.

First came the silent protest — stiff posture, judgmental eyes, subtle growling.

Then the passive-aggressive tactics — pretending he couldn’t hear us, refusing to pose for photos, hiding inside the hotel bathrobe.

And finally, the full meltdown — head turned away, scarf dramatically tossed to the side, as if he were in a telenovela.

We tried reasoning, bribing, threatening, offering snacks… nothing worked.

Eventually, we had to pick him up and carry him out, while he shouted (in his mind):

“UNHAND ME, PEASANTS! I BELONG HERE!”

This was only the beginning of the journey.

Little did he know that Japan had more surprises waiting for him — and some of them would crack even his grumpy little heart wide open.
